What Newhall Is Like

Small-Town Charm Meets Valley History

Newhall is the oldest and southernmost community in Santa Clarita, named for the businessman who founded it in the 1870s and one of the original communities that came together to form the city in 1987. It keeps a distinct personality all its own, centered on Old Town Newhall, the valley's historic Main Street.

Main Street is Santa Clarita's designated Arts & Entertainment District, lined with cafés, shops, and galleries, and it carries a genuine slice of Western film history. The valley was a popular filming ground for Westerns a century ago, and that heritage is woven into the streetscape. If you love character, walkability, and a sense of place, Newhall stands apart from the master-planned parts of the SCV.

Schools & Education

Newhall has deep roots in local education. Elementary students are served by the Newhall School District, one of the valley's oldest, while grades 7 through 12 attend schools in the William S. Hart Union High School District. William S. Hart High School, the oldest high school in the Santa Clarita Valley, sits right here in Newhall.

Parks & Recreation

The William S. Hart Museum and Park, a 265-acre estate that was the silent-film star's ranch home, sits at the north edge of Newhall and offers tours, trails, and sweeping views. Old Town also features the Veterans Historical Plaza and the Newhall Metrolink station, and the valley's river trail and park system is close by.

Dining & Shopping

Dining and shopping in Newhall revolve around the walkable Main Street corridor, where local cafés, restaurants, and independent shops create a distinctly small-town feel. It is the place in the SCV where you can park once and stroll, and where community events bring the street to life on weekends and evenings.

Commute Context

Newhall is the gateway community closest to the freeways, with strong access to the 5 and 14, making it a practical choice for commuters to Burbank, the San Fernando Valley, and Los Angeles. The Newhall Metrolink station offers weekday rail service as a car-free option toward the city.

Housing Styles & Lot Character

Newhall's housing mix reflects its long history, from older established homes with character to newer construction filling out its districts. Streets near Old Town feel more walkable and connected, while other pockets offer more traditional suburban lots. Buyers drawn to charm, character, and proximity to Main Street often find Newhall the most distinctive part of the SCV.

For Buyers

Love walkability and local character? Newhall delivers. Have a specialist confirm school boundaries and which parts of Old Town are within easy walking distance of Main Street before you narrow your search.

For Sellers

Newhall's identity as the historic, walkable heart of the SCV is a real selling point. Highlight proximity to Main Street, schools, and the freeway, and price your home against current Newhall comps.
